A New Type System for Deadlock-Free Processes
نویسنده
چکیده
We extend a previous type system for the π-calculus that guarantees deadlock-freedom. The previous type systems for deadlockfreedom either lacked a reasonable type inference algorithm or were not strong enough to ensure deadlock-freedom of processes using recursion. Although the extension is fairly simple, the new type system admits type inference and is much more expressive than the previous type systems that admit type inference. In fact, we show that the simply-typed λcalculus with recursion can be encoded into the deadlock-free fragment of our typed π-calculus. To enable analysis of realistic programs, we also present an extension of the type system to handle recursive data structures like lists. Both extensions have already been incorporated into the recent release of TyPiCal, a type-based analyzer for the π-calculus.

Comparing Deadlock-Free Session Typed Processes
Besides respecting prescribed protocols, communication-centric systems should never “get stuck”. This requirement has been expressed by liveness properties such as progress or (dead)lock freedom. Several typing disciplines that ensure these properties for mobile processes have been proposed. Unfortunately, very little is known about the precise relationship between these disciplines–and the cla...
متن کاملA Hybrid Meta-heuristic Approach to Cope with State Space Explosion in Model Checking Technique for Deadlock Freeness
Model checking is an automatic technique for software verification through which all reachable states are generated from an initial state to finding errors and desirable patterns. In the model checking approach, the behavior and structure of system should be modeled. Graph transformation system is a graphical formal modeling language to specify and model the system. However, modeling of large s...
متن کاملPart II: A Methodology for Developing Deadlock-Free Dynamic Network Reconfiguration Processes
Network Reconfiguration Processes Olav Lysne, Timothy Mark Pinkston and José Duato Abstract Dynamic network reconfiguration is defined as the process of changing from one routing function to another while the network remains up and running. The main challenge is in avoiding deadlock anomalies while keeping restrictions on packet injection and forwarding minimal. Current approaches either requir...
متن کاملTowards Static Deadlock Resolution in the π-Calculus
Static analysis techniques based on session types discern concurrent programs that ensure the fidelity of protocol sessions – for each input (output) end point of a session there is exactly an output (input) end point available – while maintaining a good expressiveness that allows to represent the standard π-calculus and several typing disciplines. More advanced type systems, enforcing stronger...
متن کاملYet Another Correctness Criterion for Multiplicative Linear Logic with MIX
A new correctness criterion for discriminating Proof Nets among Proof Structures of Multiplicative Linear Logic with MIX rule is provided. This criterion is inspired by an original interpretation of Proof Structures as distributed systems, and logical formulae as processes. The computation inside a system corresponds to the logical ow of information inside a proof, that is, roughly, a distribut...
